 Kolukattai karam and sweet

Ingredients:

  • Idli rice - 1 cup (Soak for 2-3 hrs)

  • Chopped coconut - 1/4 cup (finely)

  • Chopped Small onion - 1/4 cup

  • Chopped Green chili - 1 or 2

  • Oil - 3 tbsp

  • Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

  • Salt - 1/4 tbsp (to taste)

Method:

  1. Soak rice for 2 to 3 hours. Grind the soaked Rice finely in Mixer or grinder. Add 1/4 tbsp salt.

  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a kadai, pour the grinded paste & stir it for a while. Once it becomes thick, like parota dough, remove from fire.

  3. Heat 2 tbsp oil, add Mustard seeds. Once mustard seeds are spluttered, add onions and fry. Add the dough into it. Stop heating. Add finely chopped coconut and mix well.

  4. Make it in small parts and make it in to kolukattai shape.

  5. Steam kolukattai for 5 min & serve hot.

 

Sweet kolukattai

(Onions, chili and mustard seeds are not required. Instead 1/2 to 3/4 cup mashed jagerry is required). 

  1. Soak rice for 4 hours. Grind the soaked Rice finely in Mixer or grinder. Add 1/4 tbsp salt.

  2. Dissolve 1/2 (or 3/4) cup of mashed jagerry to 1/4 cup of water, boil & filter it.

  3. Heat 1 tbsp ghee in a kadai, pour the grinded paste and filtered jagerry water. Stir it for a while. Once it becomes thick, like parota dough, remove from fire. Add grated or finely chopped coconut & cardamom powder. Mix well.

  4. Make it in small parts and make it in to kolukattai shape.

  5. Steam kolukattai for 5 min & serve hot.
